"A writer is a person who cares about what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight." ~Ursula K. LeGuin

A Meeting of Minds and Hearts

I've been neglecting my blogs. All of them. I think my blogging phase has kinda worn off. It seems easier to store everything under "memories" in my own head.

And the most important memories are those I've had with my friends. I know I'm only 19 (some people think that it's young but I'm so not looking forward to the big 2-0), but I'm amazed that I still keep in touch with my primary school friends. We may have met when we were 9, childish and immature, with our petty squabbles, secret code words, and our scribbled autograph books with lame jokes and rhymes; but we can still yammer on about anything and everything that catches our fancy.

Had a sleepover with the primary school buds 2 weeks ago. We didn't do anything crazy. In fact, we fell asleep at the godforsaken hour of 2am *sarcasm*. I think we're getting old. Our stamina ain't what it used to be. I have to admit that I had a long day filled with presentations and quizzes. Despite the long 6 hr break between lessons, I ended up with a slight headache after all that studying.

Random: All 3 of us love our dessert! I go weak at the knees when there are sinful brownies and ice cream.

We're also planning to travel to Europe next year since one of them will be in London then. I want to go to London, Bath, Paris, Rome, Venice, Santorini, Switzerland, Vienna! Well the original list was longer but I probably don't have the funds to do so much travelling. Impoverished college student, yah? I think the best we can do is England, France, and Italy (not very extensively). Problem: We need guys to act as bodyguards. I'd rather not travel with a bunch of dudes but everyone seems to be telling me that we'll be prime targets for pickpockets and lusty French men. *SIGH*

On another note, bumped into a secondary school friend today. I forgot her name. Just remembered that it started with a P. Said the wrong name and embarassed myself. Learned from her that a whole bunch of secondary school friends were in the same shopping center (this isn't the middle of town aka. Orchard, but the heartlands aka. Choa Chu Kang - so it's a bit coincidence and a very small world). Ah well, I'll try to meet up with the future doctors and lawyers again.

That's about all I've got to say. I'll have to get back my review for The Joy Luck Club in terms of sexism.

UB/SIM Orientation 2007

The Buffalo Rave-U is finally up! My baby for the past month or so. Nearly killed me "giving birth" to it. Thanks to my Editorial Committee! Now we've gotta get started on the next issue. But I'm so busy right now!

I promise to have the next meeting right after the finals! Now, here's the video of the Orientation that Zhi made for the e-newsletter. Leave a comment!

Why I've Yet To Get A Boyfriend

Men See You As Choosy

Men notice you light years before you notice them
You take a selective approach to dating, and you can afford to be picky
You aren't looking for a quick flirt - but a memorable encounter
It may take men a while to ask you out, but it's worth the wait

Need I say more? And don't you dare start on your "left on the shelf" tirade. I've heard it before.

You know, the holidays have come and are almost gone, yet I'm still pretty busy. The paper's driving me up the wall. The graphics from the Creative Dept. are gorgeous! I'm amazed by their talent. I'll post up the link when it's done.

New-Age Asian Wedding

This is hilarious! And that's the sort of thing to make a wedding really fun. I'm so gonna have a dance floor at mine. Haha. That's if I get married that is. Goes to show that Asians have a sense of humor, and Vietnamese aren't as reserved as we expect them to be. That's stereotyping for you.=)

Categorizing My Life Through Blogs

I've come to realize that I've been categorizing my life based on my blogs. That is, I write certain things in one blog and not another. I currently have three blogs. Two are on Blogger - one for my daily life, the other for school (this one), and the last one on LiveJournal for the writer in me.

The daily life blog is a picture blog full of photos of myself, my family, and my friends. From time to time I scribble inanities or musings in there. It's quite pitiful because no one ever leaves a comment. However, my friends do read it I believe.

The school blog is full of assignments. The sort of cheem (or profound) sounding stuff you'll find a stupid kid writing in a desperate attempt to impress. In fact, I've got a friend who has been counting the number of "insofar"s I've used in my assignments. I apparently introduced him to the word.

The LJ writing blog is great for blogging about my writing exploits. It's a great community. Definitely more lively and interactive than Blogger in my opinion. People drop comments freely and are more than happy to share their thoughts with you or give you assistance.

Perhaps it's the neat-organizational-freak in me that's acting out through my blogging. It's telling me that everything in life has to be categorized or compartmentalized. That it's neater this way.

Or perhaps it's me showing different sides of myself. The fun-loving side, the academic side, and the writer side. There's a difference between the last two by the way, writing is my passion and hobby - it isn't as much of a chore as assignments are. Although I have to admit that it seems like a monumental task when I'm faced with writer's block.

Well, now that I'm done ranting, I'll go post this on all my other blogs. A first!

Qn: Do you find yourself doing what I'm doing? Blogging in different blogs to show your different circle of friends the different sides of you?

4/1 Class Gathering

It's been eons since I last my secondary 4 classmates and out class monitress, Monica, was nice enough to organize one for us on the 31st of March. We should've had it today - April 1st, instead. April Fools Day!

In any case, we met at Parco Bugis' Sketches restaurant. I arrived an hour late because I thought people would be late. At least that's what happens when we have UB gatherings. But I wasn't the last! So there.

For some strange reason I felt like drinking a margherita after dinner but my friends didn't want ot share a jug. Pfft. So we went next door to TCC instead. Bad idea. I ended up having a sleepless night after a glass of mint-choc frappe.

But all in all, it was really fun meeting up with old friends despite not having been very close to many of them in secondary school. There were a couple I was good friends with though. Cliques, you know the drill. No one's really changed much physically but we've all matured. So we still had plenty to talk about... school, work, boyfriends (or a lack thereof). Typical stuff.

It's funny how time flies. We're all either heading off to some foreign country to further our studies or working at a job. Everyone's got plans about their future. I wonder where we'll be in 10 years time. Will we have achieved our dreams? Will we still be the same?

And here's the photos I took, and which were requested by Monica to be uploaded here.=) A pity a few of the girls left right after dinner and I didn't get them on film.=(

Drop a comment if you download any of them!
